The technology of the site allows you to play movies without problems even through a Smart TV. Just watched this movie. I've been a travel writer for 15 years, and Midsommar eerily reflected my first trip to Sweden! Can't decide if that was stranger than the movie haha. I dont think they were actually speaking swedish, I think the drugs made her feel like she was speaking a universal language through gibberish.
Today i have celebrate midsommar with my family. LOL. Your reviews constantly impress me. You seem to have almost exactly the same take on things that I do, and its nice to listen to a fellow film geek who feels so similarly about film as I do. There's a reason why they named the guy who must die christian. Also another thing you may have missed: the sky is blue. I don't know that I've ever been as disconcerted and/or uncomfortable watching something as I was watching this film. The sister story pre-credits is indirectly referenced whenever Dani has a panic attack (PTSD) so it didnt need to be refrreced a lot except In a couple of dream/dug sequences.
I don't know why, but I had a sudden urge to listen Travis Scott's butterfly effect after watching this film.
So, I'm truly horrified by the amount of people wanting to negative-score this film. It's your opinion and prerogative to dislike it, but noting this as 'garbage' is overstating by a long shot. I think if that's the first reaction this film draws from you, you clearly don't understand what you've experienced and don't have the emotional maturity and intelligence it takes to appreciate this Ari masterpiece. Needless to say, this film is disturbing, moving and mortifying on so many levels that you can't help but be blown away by the narrative and it's after-shocks; especially since it burns slow in such a way that, even if you see the punches coming beyond the normal sense of anticipation, it remains punches that knock the wind out of you in spite of itself.
And what's even more terrifying is that the horror therein lies in its solid footing in reality. It almost all takes place in broad daylight, which is also scary as hell.
Yes, my stomach churned more than once due to the less often gore there, but, as a Bi-polar myself (it playing a small but significant role in the story) this is a film that sent my mind racing from the get-go.
Realistic, psychological terror and dispair you cannot look away from. This one will stay with you and may even haunt you a little if you let it.
For my part, I love this film for probably all the wrong (or maybe right) reasons.

Literally just gore and the opressive light cult dark they try to push down the throats of the audience. It's just gross. And the cult acting is forced asf. I hated every bit of it. Stop acting as if it's a nolan film or something.

There's nothing that can change my mind, period. i'm sorry, is that a period pun? 😂. For anyone who has not taken mushrooms or psychedelics, the scenes in this movie are incredibly accurate. it is the single most accurate depiction of psychedelics i have ever seen. the faces in the trees and landscapes, everything. its just incredible. also as someone with panic attacks the way florence plugh acts them is almost enough to trigger one. she is really, really good.
